02 β€” How It Works

Four steps from application to award

01

Apply

Submit an application through the CARE AFRICA platform, your Smart School, or any hub. Applications open three times a year β€” January, May, and September.

02

Review

Applications are assessed by our scholarship panel against academic performance, financial need, and community standing. All decisions within 21 days.

03

Donor Match

Approved candidates are matched to a donor β€” an individual, a diaspora family, or a corporate sponsor. Donors receive the student's profile and update reports.

04

Award & Tracking

Funds are paid directly to the institution. Students are tracked termly β€” results, attendance, and wellbeing reported to donors and the CARE AFRICA scholarship team.

03 β€” Eligibility Criteria

Who can apply

We want as many students as possible to benefit. Our criteria are clear, fair, and consistently applied.

Academic Performance

Students must be in the top 30% of their year group, confirmed by their CARE AFRICA Smart School or verified school records.

Financial Need

Household income assessed during application. Priority is given to families earning below ₦80,000 per month.

Nigerian Citizenship

All applicants must be Nigerian citizens enrolled in a Nigerian institution. Diaspora children of Nigerian heritage may apply for the University Pathway award.

Community Engagement

Students must reside in or attend a CARE AFRICA community or Smart School. No community registration? Apply and we will fast-track your community's onboarding.

04 β€” For Donors

Fund a scholarship β€” know exactly where your money goes

Every CARE AFRICA scholarship donor receives the student's profile, termly progress reports, and a direct channel to communicate with the school. Zero overhead taken from student funds.

Individual Donor

Fund one student for one year. Receive their results, photos, and a thank-you letter at year end. Personal and direct.

From ₦120,000/yr

Family Sponsor

Support a family of three students through secondary school. Ideal for diaspora families wanting long-term connection to a Nigerian community.

From ₦350,000/yr
